Old Testament: Num 3.38–39
To read the Bible in a year, read Numbers 3–4 on February 20, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
The entrance of the tabernacle faced the rising sun, and the Lord wanted Moses, Aaron, and his sons to guard that entrance. Notice why:
“Moreover those who were to camp before the tabernacle on the east, before the tabernacle of meeting, were Moses, Aaron, and his sons, keeping charge of the sanctuary, to meet the needs of the children of Israel; but the outsider who came near was to be put to death. All who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of the LORD, by their families, all the males from a month old and above, were twenty-two thousand.”
– Numbers 3.38–39
The tabernacle was for man’s benefit, not the Lord’s. However, he had guidelines related to the tabernacle that were to be observed absolutely, and violations brought the death penalty.
The tabernacle was holy, and the Lord had certain men qualified and sanctified for working in it for the benefit of the rest of Israel. They had to accept the fact that the Lord knew what he was doing and thus follow his orders.
Questions:
- Do you follow the Lord’s orders?
- If we do not experience immediate punishment for our sin, does that mean the Lord has forgotten about it?
