Old Testament: 1Sa 25.25
To read the Bible in a year, read First Samuel 25–26 on April 18, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Some people live up to their names, which can be a good thing, such as Abraham, whose name means Father of a Multitude, or it can be a bad thing, such as Nabal. His wife said of him to David:
“Please, let not my lord regard this scoundrel Nabal. For as his name is, so is he: Nabal is his name, and folly is with him! But I, your maidservant, did not see the young men of my lord whom you sent.”
– 1 Samuel 25.25
I do not know why his parents named him Nabal, which means Fool, but they did. Perhaps it was in reference to something that they did, that they conceived him in foolishness somehow, but whatever the reason, the man lived up to his name. For his foolishness in the story, he paid a dear price, that of his life.
Questions:
- What was Nabal’s wife’s name?
- What does your name mean?
