Seven Years vs Thirteen Years

Old Testament: 1Ki 7.1

To read the Bible in a year, read First Kings 6–7 on May 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

Solomon took seven years to build the temple of the Lord, but the Bible says:

Solomon took thirteen years to build his own house; so he finished all his house.

– 1 Kings 7.1

That does not necessarily mean that he gave more attention to his own house or that it was grander. It may simply be that his attention or focus was on the temple initially. He sought the kingdom of God first and his righteousness, and then the Lord gave him everything else that he needed in life.

Building the temple was his work or job in those early years, and building his own home was something that he would have done as a secondary effort.

Questions:

  • Do you seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness?
  • What are the most important things in your life?
