How Jesus Judged

New Testament: John 8.15–16

To read the Bible in a year, read John 8.1–20 on May 21, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

The Pharisees said that since Jesus bore witness of himself, it was not true, meaning that was not enough witnesses to establish the truth about himself. However, he affirmed that if he did witness of himself what he said was the truth. He said further:

“You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.”

– John 8.15–16

Jesus based everything that he did on the Father. It is no surprise that he based his judgments on the Father. Jesus was not in a rush to judge, and he did not judge, except when the Father wanted him to judge.

If we are followers of Jesus of Nazareth, should that not also picture us? Should we not be slow to judge and when we have to do it, should it not be based on the teachings of the Father as revealed in Holy Scripture?

Questions:

  • Are you judgmental?
  • Are you afraid to make judgments?
