Old Testament: Ezra 10.5
To read the Bible in a year, read Ezra 9–10 on June 15, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Many of the Jews who had returned from Babylonian captivity had married women who practiced idolatry. This disturbed Ezra greatly and he led the effort for those men to put away those wives. Furthermore, he got the leaders to make a promise to do what was right:
Then Ezra arose, and made the leaders of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel swear an oath that they would do according to this word. So they swore an oath.
– Ezra 10.5
They knew that they needed to do what was right and so they went along with the plan, even making an oath to do it.
If the leaders would not do it, how could they expect the rest of Israel to do it? True, even if the leaders did not do what was right, the rest of the people still should, nevertheless, leaders lose their effectiveness quickly if they do not lead in doing what is righteous.
Questions:
- Do you lead in any capacity?
- Do you think about your example as a leader?
