Old Testament: Psa 80.4–7
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 79–81 on August 7, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Asaph wrote Psalm 80 and he had a question for the Lord God of hosts, because Israel was suffering badly, especially as their enemies gained the upper hand:
O LORD God of hosts,
How long will You be angry
Against the prayer of Your people?
You have fed them with the bread of tears,
And given them tears to drink in great measure.
You have made us a strife to our neighbors,
And our enemies laugh among themselves.
Restore us, O God of hosts;
Cause Your face to shine,
And we shall be saved!
– Psalm 80.4–7
Something was wrong. Therefore, Asaph asked the Lord how long that situation would last, because while it lasted Israel’s enemies enjoyed seeing them down.
Asaph cried out for the Lord to look upon them favorably and then he knew that Israel would be saved.
The church, which used to have great influence in the western world, has suffered many set backs. Let us ask the Lord how long this shall be and then ask for him to shine his face upon us.
Questions:
- Is your church/congregation as large in number as it used to be?
- What can you do to remedy the situation?
