New Testament: Rom 8.15
To read the Bible in a year, read Romans 8.1–18 on August 7, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Paul reminded the Christians at Rome that they were no longer in the flesh, but in the Spirit (Romans 8.9). That being the case, they were not under obligation to live according to the flesh (Romans 8.12), but if they did live according to the flesh, they would die. No, they had something far better:
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
– Romans 8.15
By having the Spirit of adoption, the Romans could cry out, “Abba, Father,” showing that they were children of God and no longer of the flesh.
Questions:
- What does it mean to you that God is our Father?
- To what does the spirit of bondage lead?
