Paul addressed the situation when a believer is married to an unbeliever, stating that if the unbeliever is content to stay with the believer, the believer should not divorce the unbeliever, and he explained that their marriage is still legitimate, otherwise, their children would be unclean, whereas they are clean. Therefore, the marriage is legitimate. Then Paul said: 

But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace. For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?

– 1 Corinthians 7.15–16 

The believer is not so bound to marriage that he or she can compromise biblical truth to save his or her spouse. The Lord should come first, and then our marriages.

• What can you do as a Christian to persuade an unbelieving spouse to stay and hopefully be converted?
