A bold prayer

Old Testament: Psa 139.23–24

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 139–141 on August 29, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

David had acknowledged that God knew everything about him and that wherever he went, God was already there (Psalm 139.1–16). In the same psalm in which he made such confessions, David also asked God:

Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.

– Psalm 139.23–24

David had already affirmed that God can search the heart, and David knew that God was fully aware of wickedness within a person, and David knew that God answers prayer, especially in this case because God wants us to rid ourselves of wickedness.

Therefore, that was bold of David to make such a request of the God of heaven because he will answer such a prayer.

Questions:

  • Do you think you should make the same request of God?
  • Are you prepared for him to show you any wicked way that might be in you?
