Observe the seriousness of the Lord’s Supper

New Testament: 1Co 11.27

To read the Bible in a year, read First Corinthians 11.17–34 on September 1, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

Remember what the Lord’s Supper commemorates. It is about the death, the violent and blood-soaked death of the Son of God. If we get away from that, Paul wrote:

Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

– 1 Corinthians 11.27

What do you think of the Jews who instigated the horrible death of Jesus and what do you think of the Romans who carried out this horrendous deed? Let me guess, you think that they did the most wicked thing ever on the earth.

Now think on this: He who eats the bread of the Lord’s Supper and drinks the cup of that Supper in an unworthy manner is guilty of the body and blood of the Lord, that is, such a person is as guilty as the Jews and the Romans who killed Jesus.

Questions:

  • What do you think on during the Lord’s Supper?
  • Why did Jesus shed his blood? (See Matthew 26.28.)
