It is not good to forget the God of your salvation

Old Testament: Isa 17.9–11

To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 16–18 on September 29, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

The Hebrew Bible, what we know as the Old Testament, was not about Israel alone, but through those Books, God showed his concern for other nations. Concerning Damascus, the capital of Syria, he had Isaiah write:

In that day his strong cities will be as a forsaken bough
And an uppermost branch,
Which they left because of the children of Israel;
And there will be desolation.
Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation,
And have not been mindful of the Rock of your stronghold,
Therefore you will plant pleasant plants
And set out foreign seedlings;
In the day you will make your plant to grow,
And in the morning you will make your seed to flourish;
But the harvest will be a heap of ruins
In the day of grief and desperate sorrow.

– Isaiah 17.9–11

They would try to do things, but they would fail. They had forgotten God, so in a way, he would forget them. Hopefully by doing that they would search for him again.

Questions:

  • Do you remember God daily?
  • How does remembering him affect you?
