New Testament: Eph 4.17–19
To read the Bible in a year, read Ephesians 4 on October 2, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
I see many Christians seeking help from the Gentiles for their problems of living and I question why. Here is what leads me to question why they turn to the world:
This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
– Ephesians 4.17–19
Does that describe how a Christian should think? Consider what the way of the Gentiles is like:
- Their minds are futile
- Their understanding is darkened
- They are alienated from the life of God
- They are ignorant of the ways and thinking of God
- Their hearts are blind
- They are past feeling
- They have given themselves over to lewdness
- They work all uncleanness with greediness
Yet, people who believe the Bible is the word of God, will turn to the Gentiles to learn how to live life and how to solve problems of living. I don’t get it.
- Where do you turn for help?
- Whose wisdom surpasses the Lord’s?
