No one can protect himself from the Lord’s punishment

Old Testament: Isa 28.18–19

To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 27–28 on October 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

The Lord warned Israel that Assyria was coming their way, but Israel acted as though they did not have to worry about it, because they had made a covenant with death. However, the Lord revealed:

“Your covenant with death will be annulled,
And your agreement with Sheol will not stand;
When the overflowing scourge passes through,
Then you will be trampled down by it.
As often as it goes out it will take you;
For morning by morning it will pass over,
And by day and by night;
It will be a terror just to understand the report.”

– Isaiah 28.18–19

Who is puny man to think that he can block what the Lord has sent as a rebuke and a correction? Since they were impenitent, the Assyrian army that God was sending their way, would cause such a horror that it would terrify Israel just to read the report.
