New Testament: Eph 5.25
To read the Bible in a year, read Ephesians 5 on October 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
A gentleman once told me that everyone says marriage is 50/50, that is half and half, the man contributing half and the woman contributing half. He said that was not accurate, but that it is 25/75, 25 percent the husband and 75 percent the wife.
However, listen to the Spirit speaking through Paul, showing at least the husband’s part:
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her…
– Ephesians 5.25
How did Jesus show his love for the church? He died for her. That means he gave 100 percent of himself for her and to her.
Marriage is 100/100. Both spouses give of themselves totally to the other, as Paul will show later in the text that the wife also gives herself 100 percent.
- What have you observed is the key (or keys), to a successful marriage?
- What would have been the result if Jesus only gave 50 percent of himself to the church?
