Old Testament: Isa 38.4–6
To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 37–38 on October 7, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
When King Hezekiah was 39 years old, he had a boil that would lead to his death. However, he prayed to God with all his heart and God heard. Therefore, he sent Isaiah to Hezekiah with this message:
And the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying, “Go and tell Hezekiah, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years. I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city.”
– Isaiah 38.4–6
Hezekiah then knew that he would live to 54, which is still young to die, but it was a sign of mercy from the Lord. He explained that he had heard Hezekiah’s prayer and seen his tears, which touched the Lord enough that he would let Hezekiah live another 15 years.
- Would you want to know that you have 15 years to live?
- For what have you prayed with tears?
