Reverent

New Testament: 1Ti 3.8–9

To read the Bible in a year, read First Timothy 3 on October 23, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

Deacons, who are servants in the church, need to exemplify what a Christian should be, since all Christians are servants, and deacons should excel at serving, setting an example for the body of Christ:

Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.

– 1 Timothy 3.8–9

Deacons live honorable lives, and it shows up in their demeanor, their talk, their self-control, their finances, and in their own consciences.

Men, we need more deacons who will show this kind of spirit.

Truly, we need all members of the church to show this attitude of reverence.

Questions:

  • Why will many men not serve as deacons?
  • Are you supportive of the deacons in your congregation?
