A time of trouble but also of salvation

Old Testament: Jer 30.4–7

To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 29–30 on October 31, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

The Lord spoke through Jeremiah the prophet that he would remove the Jews from their land, but he also said that it was only temporary, for he would bring them back. Therefore, he had Jeremiah write the following:

Now these are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and Judah.

“For thus says the LORD:
We have heard a voice of trembling,
Of fear, and not of peace.
Ask now, and see,
Whether a man is ever in labor with child?
So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins
Like a woman in labor,
And all faces turned pale?
Alas! For that day is great,
So that none is like it;
And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble,
But he shall be saved out of it.”

– Jeremiah 30.4–7

Troubling times were headed their way, frightening men so much that it would upset their stomachs, leading them to hold their bellies like a woman going into labor, but in the end the Lord would also deliver his people.

Interestingly, the so-called “Woke,” mob actually believes that men can be in labor with a child. Obviously, here the Lord states that such is impossible, which we already knew.

Questions:

  • Have you witnessed the Lord deliver you out of great troubles?
  • Why did the Lord send Judah to Babylon?
