Old Testament: Jer 44.29
To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 43–45 on November 6, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Jews had approached Jeremiah and asked him to speak to the Lord on their behalf, and that whatever he said, they would do. Jeremiah did so. The Lord spoke through the prophet and told the group not to go down to Egypt, but that is exactly what they proposed to do, and the Lord assured them that if they did so, they would suffer and die there.
Jeremiah spoke to them further and said:
“And this shall be a sign to you,” says the LORD, “that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that My words will surely stand against you for adversity.”
– Jeremiah 44.29
When they saw death coming, they would know that the Lord had spoken through Jeremiah and that when he says not to do something, that is exactly what he means.
Questions:
- Do you do what the Lord says or do you modify it?
- Why do we insist on doing things our way?
