New Testament: Heb 4.1
To read the Bible in a year, read Hebrews 4 on November 7, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
After showing that Israel in the wilderness displeased God and that He would not let them enter the Land of Canaan, the writer of the Book of Hebrews makes this application for us:
Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.
– Hebrews 4.1
The Land of Canaan was a type of rest for Israel. However, the ultimate rest for the people of God yet remains. It is the rest God has promised in heaven.
The writer of Hebrews makes the point though, that we can miss the final rest even as the Israelites missed the rest for which God worked to bring them out of Egypt. God has worked to bring us out of sin, but if we live in sin, He will keep us out just as He did some of Israel.
Therefore, fear that situation coming upon you. Live in the grace of God and be sure to enter His rest.
Questions:
- Is entering God’s rest one of your top thoughts?
- Are you seeking earnestly to overcome sin in your life?
