Old Testament: Jer 48.1–3
To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 46–48 on November 7, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Moses saw the Promised Land from Mount Nebo, but Nebo could not see the truth of the God of Israel. Therefore, Moab, the location of Nebo, would not see praise anymore:
Against Moab. Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel:
“Woe to Nebo!
For it is plundered,
Kirjathaim is shamed and taken;
The high stronghold is shamed and dismayed—
No more praise of Moab.
In Heshbon they have devised evil against her:
‘Come, and let us cut her off as a nation.’
You also shall be cut down, O Madmen!
The sword shall pursue you;
A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim:
‘Plundering and great destruction!’”
– Jeremiah 48.1–3
While the Lord had specific ordinances for Israel, he still required righteousness of every nation, and when they failed to stay righteous, they paid the price.
Questions:
- What can you do to help your nation?
- Do you know any Moabites today?
