Why did God have high priests for Israel, and a High Priest for the church? Read the following passage carefully for the answer:
For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.
– Hebrews 5.1
The high priest came from among men to do things for men in matters relating to God. The high priest offered gifts to God and made sacrifices to Him for the sins of the people.
Without that high priest, Israel would not have had that important connection to God. Likewise, without the High Priest Jesus Christ, we do not have that only means of making a connection to our God. Praise God that He gave us Jesus that our sins might be taken care of!
