Matthew recorded the generations from Abraham to Jesus (Matthew 1.2–16), and then said: 

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.

– Matthew 1.17 

God arranged the generations leading up to the entrance of his Son into the world in perfect arrangement. The perfect God sent his perfect Son into a world that lost its perfection, but through God’s perfect working we can be perfected. 

Jesus came into the world to supply what we lacked.
