God’s people plunder their enemies

Old Testament: Num 31.32–47

To read the Bible in a year, read Numbers 30–31 on March 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

The Midianites had been a major problem for Israel. Therefore, the Lord wanted Israel to fight them in battle and not only because of the problem they caused for Israel, but for their own sins as well.

Israel followed what the Lord said to do, and they prospered mightily for it. They plundered the Midianites, and Israel gave some to the Lord and kept some for themselves:

The booty remaining from the plunder, which the men of war had taken, was…So Moses gave the tribute which was the LORD’S heave offering to Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses…

– Numbers 31.32–47

When Israel obeyed the Lord, they reaped the blessings, and when the world fights God’s people, or tries to seduce them to do evil, they suffer immensely.

Questions:

  • How many sheep did they get?
  • Do you believe the Lord will fight for you?
