What to do with the commands of God

Old Testament: Deu 6.7–9

To read the Bible in a year, read Deuteronomy 5–7 on March 8, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

After telling Israel that they needed to love the Lord God with the entirety of their being and after delivering commandments from God to them, Moses told them what they needed to do with the commands of God:

“You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

– Deuteronomy 6.7–9

Moses declared that what they were to do with the commands of God, were these things:

  • Teach them to their children
  • Talk of them at every opportunity
  • Bind them as a sign on their hands
  • Make them as frontlets between their eyes
  • Write them on the doorposts and gates

Summarized: The commands of God were to fill every part of their lives. No part of their lives were to be absent of the word of God. He made the heavens and the earth, and he made the nation of Israel.

Likewise, he has made all of us and Jesus purchased the church with his own blood. Therefore, we should see every part of our lives from God’s point of view.

Questions:

  • What is a frontlet?
  • Can you say that the word of God guides every part of your life?
