New Testament: Luke 1.5
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 1.1–23 on March 18, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023
By Don Ruhl
Luke began telling the gospel message, after saying why he wrote:
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
– Luke 1.5
Little did that man know that when he went into the temple to do his priestly work, it would be no ordinary day. It was not ordinary because he did something that no one else on earth was doing.
However, something else happened when he went in that removed that day even further from the ordinary. An angel appeared to Zacharias and told him things that he would have known were in fulfillment of prophecy. He and his wife would have a son who would announce the arrival of the Lord himself upon the earth.
How would you have reacted to such an announcement?
Questions:
- Were the high priests allowed to marry women from tribes other then Levi?
- What was Zacharias doing that day in the temple?
