Who was a lion’s whelp?

Old Testament: Deu 33.22

To read the Bible in a year, read Deuteronomy 33–34 on March 19, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

Before Moses died, he blessed the different tribes of Israel. He did not say much about Dan, but what he said was powerful:

And of Dan he said:

“Dan is a lion’s whelp;
He shall leap from Bashan.”

– Deuteronomy 33.22

Dan at that point in time was only a lion’s whelp, a cub, but as such the tribe had the potential to be a mighty lion, able to leap from its original place, represented by Bashan from which came lions that would roam about, seeking prey.

Dan would grow and would have to fight to conquer more territory since its land was not enough for the tribe (Joshua 19.47; See also Judges 18).

Like Dan, we as Christians want to see the kingdom of Christ extent its borders by converting more people to Christ.

Questions:

  • Can you find the land of the tribe of Dan on a map?
  • What are you doing to bring more people into the kingdom of Christ?
