Old Testament: Jos 2.8–11
To read the Bible in a year, read Joshua 1–3 on March 20, In the year of our Lord 2023
By Don Ruhl
Remember that the Lord assigned Israel 40 years in the wilderness because they feared the Canaanites, and would not go and fight them to conquer the land. However, when the Wilderness Wanderings were about to end, Joshua sent two spies into the land and he especially wanted them to go to Jericho. Once there, they met Rahab and notice what she said and when she said the reaction of the Canaanites began,
Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof, and said to the men: “I know that the LORD has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.”
– Joshua 2.8–11
Two years before the original 12 spies went throughout the Land of Canaan, the Canaanites already feared the Israelites! Therefore, while Israel feared the Canaanites, the Canaanites feared Israel!
Likewise, the world fears the church and that is why many efforts are underway in the Western World to silence the church and to remove all mention of God in public. However, let us not fear them as they fear us, but let us fear God and live boldly in righteousness.
Questions:
